Castlehead

Castlehead is a district in Paisley, Scotland. It has a mixture of Victorian villas, a dense maisonette scheme, a low rise labyrinth of flats has 12 tower blocks in total:

There were plans in 1946 to turn Castlehead into a comprehensive development area in the ilk of Gorbals or Sighthill in Glasgow with ten 16 storey blocks being built at the expense of the detached properties that were located in the area. Those were the proposals of the Clyde Valley Regional Plan drawn up by Sir Robert Matthew (of Hutchesontown and David Hume Tower fame) and Sir Patrick Abercrombie. There was an uproar and the proposals were rejected.
