Charing Cross is an area west of Glasgow city centre bordered to the north and east by Partick and Woodlands with Anderston to the south.
Much of the original Victorian tenement stock remain however the social hub, the original Charing Cross, was bulldozed in the 1960s to make way for the M8 motorway. There were plans to redevelop the rest of Charing Cross, which was earmarked as a Comprehensive Development Area with high rise tower blocks and mid rise estates. This never came to fruition to the west of the M8, however the area east of the M8 has seen huge development with many office buildings located in the area.
Charing Cross will also be the site of Elphinstone Place, Scotland's tallest building at 130m tall if completed.
