Georgecourt

George Court in June 2007 after the refurbishment

George Court was the first tower block to be built in Paisley in 1959 and has gone on to be the most popular. The project was approved in 1958. The 40m tall building is located between George Street and Canal Street in the Castlehead area of the town and contains 56 flats. Construction on the brick-based structure was carried out by Blackburn who were also involved in other high rise projects in Paisley at Foxbar and Hunterhill. It has an outstanding reputation in terms of crime and vandalism and was refurbished in the late 1990s. The balconies became extensions to the living rooms, pink cladding was applied to the walls outside, new windows installed and a silver pitched roof was added.
