Pollokshields in Glasgow was the first garden suburb to be built in the United Kingdom back in the 19th century predating Bedford near London, England. Much of its tenement housing is unique to the area having been designed by Alexander 'Greek' Thompson. It lies south of Kinning Park, east of Bellahouston and Dumbreck, north of Crossmyloof and Strathbungo and west of Gorbals and Govanhill. It is the only area in Scotland where there is an equal number of ethnic minorities to white people, with one of the highest concentration of Asians in Britain. It is among the plushest areas in the city with many avenues of grand Victorian villas on the western side accomodating the wealthy. The eastern half of Pollokshields isnt as well off but is still a desirable location.
