Provost Close is a 13 storey tower block in Johnstone, near Glasgow. It is the tallest building in the town and used to be known locally among schoolchildren as The Staff of Johnstone.
It is located at the corner of Dimity Street and High Street in the centre of town. A 4 storey deck access block with shops on the ground floor is nearby.
Provost Close was approved in 1972, towards the end of the high rise boom in Scotland. Constrcution was carried out by Lawrence.
The building contains 52 flats, most of which are homes for elderly people. It was fully refurbished in 1994 with cladding applied to the exterior, a pitched roof added, internal improvements carried out and alterations made to the base of the building including landscaping of the immediate area.
