Dumbreck court reb

Dumbreck Court in Glasgow after refurbishment

Refurbishment is the process of bringing a structure or building, house, flat or similar back to a usable condition and up to current standards. The level of work required varies dependant on the existing condition and the standards to which they are to be raised. It can be just upgrading services such as the electrics or appliance, heating system, or new windows, to completely stripping out all material to a bare shell and completely refitting it with new services and appliances, windows, doors floors, insulation, roof coverings etc. and redecorate.

This has become more popular in the past 10 years as many tower blocks have deteriorated to an uninhabitable condition. However, refurbishment can cost several times more than demolition and as a result, demolition is almost always the preferred option over refurbishment.
